Publishing
Paid-for newspaper sales have fallen in recent years. The market for newspapers is under pressure and the expectation is that this will continue in the years ahead. Nevertheless newspaper industry income has grown in recent years due to increased revenue from internet activity. Income in the industry has increased from digital advertising on the internet.
As with the newspaper industry the sales of magazines and general and educational books are also under pressure. Additionally the growth of magazine advertising at 1.3% is low compared to the internet at 14.8% (PricewaterhouseCoopers "Dutch Entertainment & Media Outlook 2008-2012").
Publishers must think of ways to cope with the growing competition from online news media. The key lies in providing opportunities for cross-media advertising both in physical publications as well as the internet. Publishers will also use more multimedia applications and develop more e-commerce activities. In addition the sector will increase investment in, for example, e-paper.
The conversion of physical (newspapers) advertisements, magazines and books to the web is not a straight forward process. The digital conversion must be of a high quality to handle the high quality of the physical document content. To ensure that this happens extra controls and specific indexing is necessary.

The system provides document scanning and automatic text recognition facilities. Specific indexing and additional controls can be carried out manually. After this the content can be converted into XML enabling publication on the internet.
